Platform for graphics Canva buys a business that makes video ads Mango AI and animation firm Cavalry
Canva on Tuesday announced the acquisition of UK-based 2D animation software company Cavalry and US video advertising startup MangoAI, as the graphic design platform accelerates its push into AI-driven creative tools and a more professional-grade design suite.
In a statement, Canva said MangoAI cofounder Nirmal Govind will join the company as its Chief Algorithms Officer, a newly created role focused on leading personalisation and algorithm-powered experiences across the platform.
The financial terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.
Canva said Cavalry’s integration will enhance its motion and animation capabilities — areas that have traditionally required specialised software — while MangoAI will strengthen its offerings in creative optimisation for video advertising.
The company added that it closed 2025 with more than 265 million global users, 31 million paid seats and over $4 billion in annualised revenue, underscoring its scale as it expands deeper into AI-led content creation and advanced design tools.
