Anthropic gives Pro users more access to Claude AI through Excel integration
Anthropic Expands ‘Claude in Excel’ to Pro Users
Anthropic has rolled out its “Claude in Excel” feature to Pro plan subscribers, expanding access to advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools for spreadsheet-based work.
The feature was earlier available only to Max, Team and Enterprise users during its beta phase. With the latest update, the Excel add-in now supports drag-and-drop uploads of multiple files, prevents overwriting existing cells and uses auto-compaction to handle longer sessions.
In a post on X, Anthropic said the update is designed to simplify data analysis for professionals, especially in finance and operations. The company also shared a video demonstrating the new capabilities.
First launched as a research preview in October 2025, Claude in Excel integrates Anthropic’s Claude models directly into Microsoft Excel and is powered by the Sonnet 4.5 model. The tool allows users to analyse complex multi-sheet workbooks, receive cell-level citations for explanations, update assumptions without breaking formulas, debug errors and build financial models using templates or uploaded documents such as 10-K reports.
Users can also generate pivot tables, charts, variance analyses, clean data and identify trends, while maintaining a log of all changes made within Excel.
The update builds on Anthropic’s earlier file-handling improvements, including a September feature that allowed Claude to create and edit Excel files directly within its apps, which later became available to paid users.
Financial services remain a key focus area for Anthropic as enterprise demand for AI tools continues to grow.
Separately, Anthropic is reportedly planning to raise around $25 billion at a valuation of about $350 billion, with investors such as Sequoia Capital, Singapore’s GIC and Coatue expected to participate. Rising enterprise adoption of AI has pushed valuations of AI startups to record levels, even as concerns about a potential AI bubble persist.
