AI Upskilling Creates ₹33 LPA Club for Indian CXOs and VPs, Scaler Report Reveals
Artificial intelligence has fundamentally shifted from being a specialised technical skill to a workforce-wide capability that is reshaping India's corporate compensation landscape. According to Scaler's "India AI Workforce Report 2026," senior leaders who embrace AI competencies are commanding top-tier market premiums, with Vice Presidents, CXOs, and engineering leaders securing post-upskilling salaries averaging around ₹33 lakh per annum .
The report, which analysed insights from 11,444 professionals across India, reveals a stark reality: while early-career professionals see the largest percentage gains due to a lower base, experienced executives secure the highest absolute salaries in the market . AI upskilling delivered significant gains across experience levels, with professionals reporting an average salary increase of 147 per cent .
Abhimanyu Saxena, Co-founder of Scaler, highlighted the transformative impact of AI on the workforce: "At a time when much of the conversation around AI focuses on job displacement, the findings tell a different story. For those who embrace AI skills, the technology is proving to be a creator of opportunity, and not a destroyer of jobs" .
This surge in executive pay is tied to a broader structural transformation in the Indian workplace. According to the report, AI is losing its exclusive association with core programming. Today, nearly 50 per cent of all AI-enabled career outcomes lie entirely outside traditional engineering roles, spanning critical corporate functions including leadership, consulting, HR, marketing, finance, and academia .
Software engineering remains the single largest outcome at 34.77 per cent, but engineering leadership has climbed to a massive 17.51 per cent of the talent pool . Career pathways into consulting have nearly doubled, rising from 3.1 per cent of learners at the entry level to 5.65 per cent overall, as enterprises seek leaders who can bridge the gap between technical infrastructure and business return on investment .
Bengaluru continues to anchor the talent landscape with a 19 per cent share, followed closely by Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Chennai . However, the compensation boom is not restricted by geography. Nearly one in five AI learners now comes from Tier-II cities including Lucknow, Jaipur, Patna, Indore, Coimbatore and Nagpur, reflecting the growing democratisation of AI learning and career opportunities .
The report also highlights changing participation patterns among women. Women are scaling these high-growth AI pathways at historic rates, securing an average 145 per cent salary jump upon transition into AI-enabled careers . Female quality assurance engineers recorded the highest gains, with salaries rising by as much as 574 per cent . Nearly 25 per cent of AI learners now come from non-technical backgrounds, signalling growing interest in AI among professionals outside engineering and technology .
The data from the report painted a clear picture for India's corporate elite: AI proficiency is the new baseline for premium executive compensation. For senior leaders navigating a rapidly shifting digital ecosystem, upskilling may now be a definitive strategy for commanding the highest salaries in the country . As one industry expert noted, AI is becoming a career multiplier not only for young professionals but also for experienced workers looking to strengthen their capabilities and move into higher-value roles .
