report, an internal company meeting held earlier this week served as a war room
for the tech giant's new fiscal year strategy, with executives laying out a
clear directive: position Microsoft's in-house AI models as superior in
efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and enterprise integration, while highlighting
the shortcomings of rival offerings.
The meeting, which was described as a high-stakes strategy
session for FY27, featured stark rhetoric from top Microsoft leadership.
Executive Vice President Jay Parikh reportedly told the room, "Everyone
else is selling parts — we're selling the full end-to-end system. That's the
story that we all need to get out there and tell in FY27." This messaging
is designed to reframe the competitive narrative. Instead of being seen as just
another AI provider, Microsoft wants to be perceived as the comprehensive platform
where businesses can build, deploy, and monitor AI solutions seamlessly—from
cloud infrastructure to office applications.
Perhaps the most pointed remarks came from Copilot Executive
Vice President Jacob Andreou, who delivered a direct comparison between
Microsoft's Copilot and Anthropic's Claude chatbot. According to the Bloomberg
report, Andreou claimed that when used within Microsoft's office apps,
Anthropic's model was "slower and less accurate, and lacked the proper
security integrations." This aggressive positioning is notable not just
for its tone, but for its target—companies that Microsoft has long depended on
to power its own flagship products.
This strategic shift is not occurring in a vacuum. Earlier
this month, reports surfaced that Microsoft had begun quietly swapping out
advanced AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic in popular applications like Word
and Excel, replacing them with its own lower-cost, internally developed models.
This move was widely interpreted as a cost-cutting measure, especially as
Microsoft faces mounting pressure from investors over its massive spending on
AI data centers. The company's stock has dropped by up to 20% this year amid

approximately $300 million. Nadella pointed out that while Unilever initially
used the most advanced AI models available, they later transitioned to a
cheaper Microsoft model—a clear testament to the value proposition Microsoft is
now pushing.
In a parallel move, Microsoft has reportedly told its
Experiences + Devices division—which includes teams working on Windows,
Microsoft 365, and Outlook—to stop using Anthropic's Claude Code by the end of
June and transition to GitHub Copilot CLI instead. This internal
standardization effort further underscores the company's commitment to its own
AI ecosystem.
While coaching a sales team to trash-talk competitors is
hardly unusual in the corporate world, what makes this development significant
