X outage: Users report problems with apps and websites

Elon Musk-owned social media platform X (formerly Twitter) suffered a significant service disruption on Monday evening, impacting thousands of users in India. This marks the second consecutive month that the platform has faced technical difficulties, following a series of high-profile outages in the United States last month.

According to data from Downdetector, a service that tracks internet outages by aggregating user reports, complaints regarding X began spiking sharply around 6:40 PM Indian Standard Time (IST). Within a short window, the platform logged over 3,000 incident reports from users across India.

The data indicates a widespread failure across different access points of the service. A majority of users, comprising more than half of the reports, stated they were unable to access the website. Approximately 27% of those affected reported issues with the mobile application, while around 16% experienced problems specifically with their content feed, preventing them from loading new posts.

As of late Monday evening, the exact technical cause of the outage remained unclear. The company has not released an official statement or explanation regarding the disruption, leaving users and industry observers speculating about the root of the problem.

This incident in India follows a turbulent period for the platform in January. Last month, X experienced two significant outages in the United States. The first American outage saw over 28,300 user reports, while the second was far more severe, with complaints surging past 79,000. During that second US disruption, the instability also spilled over to international users, with more than 6,000 issues reported in India at the time.

The repeated outages raise questions about the platform's infrastructure stability under Musk's leadership, which has seen significant changes to the company's technical teams and operational strategies since his acquisition.
