Wipro expands its foothold in South Korea by opening an innovation lab in Seoul
Wipro on Monday announced the expansion of its business operations in South Korea, reinforcing the country’s position as a key strategic growth market for the company. The expansion includes a larger office footprint in Seoul, the launch of a new Innovation Lab, and continued investment in local talent to support South Korean clients both domestically and globally.
With the launch of the Seoul Innovation Lab, Wipro now operates nine such facilities worldwide under its Wipro Innovation Network (WIN). The new lab will primarily focus on the technology, automotive, and industrial sectors, supporting advanced use cases such as intelligent product engineering, software-defined vehicles, smart manufacturing, supply chain optimisation, and AI-enabled operations.
The Bengaluru-headquartered firm said the move reflects the growing importance of South Korea as a global innovation hub, particularly in areas such as semiconductors, advanced technologies, automotive engineering, and industrial manufacturing. It added that increasing demand from South Korean enterprises for AI-led transformation is also driving its expanded presence in the region.
Wipro currently employs several hundred professionals in South Korea and continues to invest in the local ecosystem. The company serves clients through a strong on-ground presence, supported by its global delivery network, enabling enterprises to access specialised skills, industry expertise, and scalable capabilities while maintaining close local engagement.
As part of its long-term strategy, Wipro is also partnering with leading academic institutions in South Korea to upskill talent and create opportunities for early-career professionals to work on advanced technology and innovation programmes.
Vinay Firake, chief executive of APMEA (Asia Pacific, India, Middle East, and Africa) Strategic Market Unit at Wipro, said the expansion underscores the company’s commitment to the region. He noted that strengthening local capabilities and integrating South Korea more deeply into Wipro’s global delivery and innovation network will help enterprises translate innovation into measurable business outcomes.
The Seoul Innovation Lab will serve as a collaborative space for clients and ecosystem partners, enabling co-creation, experimentation, and solution development. It will also showcase Wipro’s AI-powered platforms and solutions, demonstrating how artificial intelligence can be applied across real-world business scenarios to accelerate innovation from concept to deployment.
The expansion builds on Wipro’s earlier acquisition of the Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) business unit of HARMAN, a subsidiary of Samsung. As part of that integration, more than 5,000 professionals across South Korea, the Americas, Europe, and India joined Wipro, further strengthening its global capabilities.
