Wipro Expands Deal Pipeline with Olam Pact, Strengthens Portfolio Through Strategic Acquisitions

Wipro has intensified its dealmaking efforts with a major strategic engagement involving Olam Group, marking a significant step in its efforts to strengthen industry-specific and AI-led capabilities. As part of this engagement, Wipro is acquiring Olam’s IT and digital services arm, Mindsprint, in a deal valued at around $375 million, while also securing a long-term contract expected to exceed $1 billion. 

This move is part of a broader strategy by Wipro to scale its consulting-led and AI-powered services at a time when demand in the IT sector remains uneven. By integrating Mindsprint’s domain expertise in the food and agribusiness sector, Wipro is aiming to build deeper vertical capabilities and create more sticky, long-term client relationships.

Alongside this latest deal, Wipro has been actively pursuing acquisitions over the past few years to strengthen its global positioning. One of its most notable acquisitions was Capco, acquired for about $1.45 billion, which significantly boosted Wipro’s presence in consulting, especially in the financial services domain. This deal marked a shift toward high-value consulting-led engagements rather than traditional outsourcing. 

Another important acquisition is Rizing Intermediate Holdings, a specialized SAP consulting firm acquired to expand Wipro’s enterprise application capabilities. This helped the company deepen its expertise in digital transformation and enterprise resource planning solutions for global clients. 

Wipro has also strengthened its cybersecurity and cloud portfolio through acquisitions such as Edgile and LeanSwift. These deals were aimed at enhancing its capabilities in risk, compliance, and cloud-based services—areas that are seeing strong demand as enterprises accelerate digital adoption. 

In the engineering and design space, Wipro acquired Designit to build a strong design-led innovation practice. This acquisition enabled Wipro to integrate user experience and product design into its service offerings, aligning with the growing importance of customer-centric digital solutions. 

More recently, the company has continued its targeted acquisition strategy with deals such as Aggne Global and Applied Value Technologies in 2024. These acquisitions were focused on expanding capabilities in insurance technology and consulting services, further diversifying Wipro’s portfolio. 

Additionally, Wipro acquired business units like HARMAN’s DTS division, reflecting its interest in expanding engineering and embedded systems capabilities.

The increasing pace of acquisitions highlights Wipro’s shift toward building a more consulting-heavy, AI-driven business model. Instead of relying primarily on large workforce-based outsourcing deals, the company is investing in intellectual property, domain expertise, and platform-led solutions. This transformation is crucial as clients demand higher value services, faster innovation cycles, and integrated digital solutions.

Overall, the Olam deal and the acquisition of Mindsprint fit into a clear pattern of strategic expansion. Wipro is positioning itself as a consulting-led, AI-powered technology partner by combining large transformation deals with targeted acquisitions across high-growth areas such as cloud, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, and industry-specific solutions.
