To challenge Spotify's Backstage, Port raises $100 million with a valuation of $800 million

Israeli startup Port, a proprietary competitor to Spotify’s open source developer portal Backstage, has raised $100 million in a Series C funding round led by General Atlantic, valuing the company at $800 million and bringing its total funding to $158 million. Founded in 2022, Port has attracted major customers such as GitHub, British Telecom, and LG by offering an internal developer portal that not only catalogs tools but also manages and orchestrates AI agents, an area its founders say has become chaotic as enterprises rapidly adopt agent-driven workflows. Unlike build-it-yourself open source options, Port provides orchestration, performance measurement, governance guardrails, and human-in-the-loop approvals through features such as its “context lake,” which defines what data and knowledge AI agents can safely access. With participation from Accel, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Team8, the new funding will help Port expand its platform as developers increasingly look to automate incident resolution, security, release management, and other non-coding tasks that make up the majority of software engineering work, even as competition intensifies from big tech players and startups like LangChain, UiPath, and Cortex.
