The 'full AI stack' will be developed by the government to spur innovation: Chaudhary Jayant

The government is planning to build a “complete AI stack” using anonymised data to boost innovation in India, Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary said on Friday.

Speaking at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, the minister said the AI stack will include everything needed to build and run AI systems — hardware, software, data and services. The anonymised datasets will be shared with researchers and startups so they can develop new AI solutions, especially in the education sector.

Chaudhary also suggested creating an audit trail system for AI models to improve transparency and accountability. He said that in the future, institutions like the Comptroller and Auditor General of India could publish audit reports on AI systems.

He stressed that data will follow proper government protocols and will be segmented to ensure safety and privacy.

Highlighting India’s public-private partnership (PPP) model, the minister said the most important part of PPP is “People,” showing that the approach is citizen-focused. He added that while guardrails are necessary for AI, they should not stop innovation.

Under the IndiaAI Mission, India first aimed to secure 18,000 GPUs but has already crossed 38,000. By the end of the year, the country expects to have over one lakh GPUs. These computing facilities will be set up in educational institutions to support research and strengthen collaboration between academia and industry.
