Spotify aims to become the home of AI-generated personal audio
Spotify is introducing a new way for users to create and listen to personalized AI-generated podcasts directly inside its app. The feature allows users to generate custom audio content from documents, notes, schedules, articles, or prompts using external AI coding tools and then save those podcasts to their Spotify library for private listening.
The move reflects the growing popularity of AI-powered audio experiences. Over the past few years, platforms like Google NotebookLM, Adobe Acrobat, and Hero have introduced features that turn written material into podcast-style summaries and discussions. Spotify is now extending this concept by making the generated audio playable within its own ecosystem.
To enable the feature, Spotify has released a new command-line interface (CLI) tool currently available in beta. The company says users can connect the tool with AI coding assistants such as OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, or OpenClaw Github to create personalized podcast episodes.
According to Spotify, people are increasingly using AI agents to produce customized audio content for everyday use. Examples include audio summaries of class notes before exams, personalized daily briefings, schedule overviews, or topic-specific explainers. Rather than reading long text outputs, users can listen to these summaries in podcast form while commuting, exercising, or working.
The process begins by downloading Spotify’s CLI tool from its GitHub page and linking it to a Spotify account through a browser login. Users can then type natural language prompts asking the AI to generate a podcast episode on a specific topic. For example, someone could request a detailed audio session about the history of the FIFA World Cup, including famous players, tournament locations, and information about upcoming matches.
Once generated, the podcasts are automatically saved to the user’s Spotify library for easy access. Spotify clarified that these AI-created podcasts remain private and are not publicly searchable or available to other users on the platform.
The feature highlights Spotify’s broader push into AI-driven personalization as competition intensifies among streaming and productivity platforms. By combining generative AI with audio consumption, Spotify aims to position itself not just as a music or podcast service, but as a central hub for personalized spoken content.
The launch also demonstrates how AI-generated media is moving beyond simple text chatbots into more interactive and consumable formats. As voice AI technology improves, personalized podcasts and audio briefings could become a common way people consume information throughout the day.
Spotify has not yet announced when the feature will become widely available beyond the beta testing phase, but the company appears to be betting heavily on AI-powered audio experiences as a future growth area.
