If AI is in line with democratic principles, it has the potential to transform governance: Kerala Chief Minister
Kerala CM Says AI Can Transform Governance, Stresses Ethics and Data Protection
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize governance and public service delivery if implemented according to democratic values and ethical principles.
Speaking at the valedictory session of the Kerala Regional AI Impact Conference organized by the IndiaAI Mission on Friday, Vijayan outlined the state government’s plan to integrate AI into administration to improve transparency, efficiency, and public participation.
“AI can help make government services more responsive by factoring in public feedback, while also opening avenues for affordable healthcare, new employment opportunities for youth, and innovation-driven growth,” he said.
Vijayan highlighted initiatives such as K-FON, the Kerala Startup Mission, and the Digital University as key enablers of technology-led governance, while emphasizing that data protection and privacy remain critical concerns in AI adoption.
The conference, themed “From Innovation to Impact: Realising the Potential of AI Across Sectors”, was attended by policymakers, researchers, academicians, industry leaders, startups, and investors.
Kavitha Bhatia, Chief Operating Officer of the India AI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, said the upcoming India AI Summit 2026 in New Delhi will be a major event bringing together global investors, industry leaders, startups, technologists, and students. She added that Kerala’s skilled workforce positions the state to become a significant digital service provider for the country.
