India’s AI Regulations Aimed at Enabling Innovation, Not Overregulation: Minister Jitin Prasada
The government’s approach to artificial intelligence regulation is designed to avoid overregulation while still providing enough policy structure for innovation to grow, Union Minister of State Jitin Prasada said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) New Delhi Symposium 2026, Prasada stressed that regulatory frameworks for AI are being shaped to support technological progress while ensuring broad-based benefits across society.
“As far as AI policy and regulations go, they are not aimed at over regulating. The regulations are enough for innovations to thrive,” he said, underlining that accessibility and inclusion remain central to India’s technology strategy.
Highlighting the country’s strengths, Prasada described India as a fast-growing market with strong potential for advanced technology adoption, including AI solutions. He said the country’s core advantages lie in “scale, speed, innovation and inclusion.”
According to the minister, India’s success in digital and AI transformation will ultimately be measured by how effectively technology-driven gains reach the grassroots level. “India will not call itself successful until those at the bottom-up segment reap the benefits of the technology transformation that is happening,” he said.
He added that AI-led transformation should raise individual productivity, increase income levels and improve overall standards of living, with benefits extending across all sections of society.
At the symposium, AWS and industry body NASSCOM announced a strategic collaboration to skill 250,000 learners in AI and cloud technologies by 2027. The initiative is aimed at strengthening India’s digital workforce and preparing professionals for emerging technology roles.
The remarks come as New Delhi hosts a five-day AI Impact Summit this week, bringing together policymakers, technology companies and industry stakeholders to discuss AI adoption, governance and innovation pathways.
